THE SIMPLE TRUTH ABOUT MAKING MONEY ONLINE

There is an OVERWHELMING number of people who want to make money online but don’t succeed. Statistics show that very few people actually achieve wealth but it definitely can be done!

WHY DO PEOPLE FAIL?

DONE-FOR-YOU SYSTEMS

I have been a victim of this more times than I can count!  The ones that promise they will do everything for you. What are ‘Done For You’ systems?

‘Done for You’ systems usually relate to pre-packaged services or solutions that are intended to involve the client as little as possible in terms of effort or involvement. These systems are frequently sold as turnkey solutions, meaning that the supplier handles all of the jobs, procedures, or stages required to accomplish a specific goal.

The problem is that most of these are promises that come with a hefty price tag.

For example, providing leads, free traffic, sales funnels; setting up your email system. But all of these promises are really’ upsells’ asking you for more and more money, and you are left bewildered. Why? Because you didn’t learn anything yourself, you just followed systems that set you up for failure. You spent hundreds of dollars, maybe thousands – money you really couldn’t afford to spend.

ONLINE SCAMS

Online scams are a broad category of dishonest actions carried out via the internet to mislead people or organizations to get money or accomplish other nefarious objectives. These frauds come in many shapes and sizes, and they frequently prey on people’s gullibility, trust, or weaknesses.

They are everywhere and cropping up every day! After a while, you will start recognizing them. The headlines are too good to be true: Make $1000 dollars a day! Generate Thousands of Leads!  Get Free Traffic!  Zero Experience Required!

You get the picture! We both know that if it were that simple, we would all be trying to do it. The real money is made by these scam artists who keep selling their systems over and over, leaving people broke, frustrated and stuck in life.

Empty promises will leave us feeling let down. We get caught up in the hype and the emotions without looking at the big picture. These companies play on our emotions and take our money without delivering.

Some examples of online scams include:

  • Phishing: Phishing scams are fraudulent emails or websites that impersonate legitimate entities to trick recipients into revealing sensitive information like passwords, credit card numbers, or personal details.

  • Nigerian Prince Scam: A Nigerian prince, government official, or wealthy relative sends victims emails requesting financial assistance in exchange for a promised reward, which never materializes.

  • Online Shopping Scams: Fraudulent online sellers often advertise products at low prices or offer counterfeit goods, leading victims to receive substandard or fake products or nothing at all after payment.

  • Tech Support Scams: Scammers trick victims into providing remote access or paying for unnecessary software or services by impersonating technical support representatives from reputable companies.

  • Romance Scams: Scammers create fake profiles on dating websites or social media to establish romantic relationships, often requesting money for medical emergencies or travel expenses without intending to meet in person.

  • Investment and Ponzi Schemes: Ponzi schemes, fraudulent investments that promise high returns with minimal risk, use new investors’ funds to pay back earlier investors, creating the illusion of profitability until the scheme collapses.

  • Lottery and Sweepstakes Scams: Victims of lottery scams are tricked into paying upfront fees or taxes to claim their prize, only to have scammers steal the victim’s money.

  • Work-from-Home Scams: Scams offer easy-to-make money-from-home schemes like envelope stuffing, payment processing, and reshipping, but often result in loss or illegal activities.

SHINY OBJECT SYNDROME

Shiny Object Syndrome (SOS) is a condition where individuals easily become distracted by new opportunities, often compromising their current goals or projects.

Imagine a kid in a toy store – every toy begs to be picked up. Once done, the interest is lost and it is off to the next new toy.

For online entrepreneurs, especially new ones, it is losing sight of the big picture and going after the next website, new marketing idea, business venture, or new technology and gadget – always a new distraction, and you are off and running. This is a struggle that I had so I can relate.

When you first start in the online marketing world, you want to try several things at once – maybe 2 or 3 websites (after all, you have a lot of interests, right?) Or you want to join every affiliate program out there. This is a good recipe for failure. Why?

When you are new and you try to build out so many websites, for example, you are taking your focus away from what you want to accomplish – making money! You need to focus on one thing and build out your business from there.

There are several characteristics of Shiny Object Syndrome such as:

Constant Distraction: Shiny object syndrome is characterized by individuals jumping between ideas or projects without fully committing, often due to a short attention span and difficulty completing tasks.

Chasing Trends: The latest industry trends can easily lead individuals to abandon their current strategies in favour of new ones that promise quick results or success.

Lack of Focus: Shiny object syndrome can lead to a lack of clarity and focus on long-term goals, as individuals may be influenced by immediate gratification or novelty.

Difficulty Making Decisions: Constant exposure to new opportunities can lead to difficulties in decision-making and prioritization, resulting in indecisiveness and scattered goal-setting approaches.

Unfulfilled Potential: Individuals can be hindered from fully achieving their potential and long-term objectives by constantly switching gears and constantly pursuing new opportunities.

To combat shiny object syndrome, boost self-awareness, prioritize goals, and develop focus and discipline strategies. Set clear objectives, establish boundaries, practice mindfulness, and seek accountability from mentors or peers.

SO WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

THE RIGHT MINDSET

  • Affiliate marketing is not a 9 -5 job with a salary at the end of the week – get yourself out of that mentality!

  • Expect failure – It’s inevitable. Get over it! Learn from it! Think of it as an opportunity to begin again. Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. A quote by Thomas Edison sums it up. Edison’s favourite response when asked about his many failures when he invented the light bulb was, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work!”

  • Be prepared to work hard – “Effort in leads to Results out.”

  • Expect to make sacrifices.

  • Setting goals is important – daily, weekly and long-term.

  • Be enthusiastic – LOVE what you do. CARE about what you do. PROVIDE solutions to problems.

  • Treat this like a business because that is what this is – a business. If your mindset is that this is just a ‘side project’ then that’s what it will become.
